September Saturday

As a youth, September was a special month. School was back in session, that long summer vacation
was behind, there was a hint in the air and an indication in the trees that fall was quickly approaching. It
was a time of tough transition...giving up the time that I was able to spend outdoors each day through the
summer for a stuffy classroom. It was especially hard when those September days were bright and the
warm breezes drifted through the open windows at school making it very hard to concentrate on studies. I
thought of how quickly the summer had gone by. Each enjoyable day seemed much too short, and now it is
as though someone has tampered with time and I am aware of each minute that passes. It's as though the
school day would never end. All I could think of was the fun my old dog and I had fishing in the farm pond.
That is what made Saturday so special! I looked forward to that day all week long, and vowed to myself that
I would not waste one precious moment of it!
